A village on the Via Transilvanica
Saschiz is a UNESCO-listed Saxon village in the heart of Transylvania — small, walkable and quiet once the day-trippers leave. The house sits on the main street; almost everything below is within a short walk or a short drive.
The fortified church
Two minutes up the street stands the fortified Saxon church, part of the UNESCO listing, with a bell tower modelled on the clock tower of Sighișoara. Above the village, the ruins of the old peasant citadel look out over the valley.
The Via Transilvanica
The long-distance Via Transilvanica trail passes straight through Saschiz, so many of our guests arrive on foot with a pack and leave the same way the next morning. Bicycles are here to borrow if you would rather ride the lanes between the villages.
Sighișoara & Viscri
Sighișoara — the citadel town where Vlad the Impaler was born — is about twenty minutes by car. Over the hills the other way lies Viscri, with its whitewashed cottages and famous fortified church. Both make an easy half-day out and back.
